Call out: Dance Advocates

Context

Dumfries and Galloway Dance is a long-term project developing a thriving contemporary dance sector across Dumfries and Galloway. We believe this could bring together the brilliant activity that already happens across the region and create further opportunities to promote the region as a home for dance. The project is led by Cultured Mongrel Dance Theatre, alongside a growing network of partners, venues and collaborators. 

Call out

Dance Advocates is a 6 month development programme made up of local leaders aged 18-25 who are interested in pursuing careers in the performing arts. The programme explores progression routes into the arts sector, helping young leaders to advance into further training or pursue their own creative work.

Dance Advocates are introduced to Cultured Mongrels specific artistic signature, receiving monthly technical and teaching training with professional dance facilitators. They then work with the Youth Dance Company leading sessions using the skills developed in their training.

Dance Advocates will also receive one to one mentoring to support them to develop their artistic interests and explore other careers in the arts sector. The programme will be tailored to their individual needs and evolve in response to the group.

Young leaders and young dancers will be instrumental in the administrative and production tasks associated with running the Youth Dance Company; including developing social media strategies, audience development and finding further platforms in which the performance work could be showcased.

To apply please prepare a statement (max 1 page A4) explaining why you would like to be included in this programme and what you feel you would gain out of the experience.  We welcome proposals in formats/languages such as BSL, Braille, sound or video recording or transcribed by phone.
