Simply put, daily dancing is an opportunity to start the day collectively and to move together. Everyone is welcome. You turn up when you can and when you can't there is no pressure. You do what your body needs in the space you have.
Daily Dancing was born in April 2020 as a response to the restrictions of lockdown - an opportunity to come together (albeit virtually) to dance together each day. For just ten minutes, at 10am each weekday morning, a growing community of folks come together on Zoom. Some come everyday, some only occasionally. Many have children with them, or dogs, or breakfast. What unites us all is a want to move with people and the joy of this virtual community - hundreds of tiny squares on a monitor of people moving to fantastic tunes, just for the fun of it.
Ten minutes, no pressure or expectation, no additional agenda items. Just dance, wave, done.
For something so simple, it has become an amazing community. We come to recognise names and faces we’ve only ever seen as a small dancing square on our screen. We notice, many days, how our bodies and minds feel a little bit freer after ten minutes of just letting them do their thing. We discover some awesome tracks and an open, welcoming community of Daily Dancers.
The playlist each week is different. For the first six months of Daily Dancing, most of the playlists were curated by the brilliant Rosie Aspinall Priest, host of EHFM’s Sounds for the Second Sex. Since Rosie’s now taking a break to pursue her PhD, going forward we are inviting everyone from our Daily Dancing community to help us compose awesome playlists. If you’d like to DJ one week, please compose five x ten minute playlists on Spotify, labelled with each day of the week, and send them to Emma. We’ll choose one playlist at random each week. Alternatively, if you’d like to DJ more regularly, then do also get in touch.
No judgement, just dancing. Do join us.
