Something Smashing - Improvisation Workshop and Performance.

Workshop 1330-1530
Performance 1600-1700
Crichton Memorial Church
Tickets from £5

Something Smashing have been programming nights of exuberant improvised sound and movement since 2017. Because both dancers and musicians improvise but rarely together, organisers Tess Letham, Alma Lindenhovius Skye Reynolds and Graeme Wilson invite movement artists and musicians from Scotland’s flourishing improv scene to come together for spontaneous encounters and performance experiments.

These uncertain and energetic sessions push performers beyond their everyday styles; the exhilaration of movement simultaneously shaping and shaped by sound makes them a magnet for audiences seeking surprise.

Audiences get to experience truly live encounters unfolding in real time.

Workshop:

This workshop will offer an introduction to Something Smashing’s playful approach.
Open to all levels of movers, musicians and performers interested in improvisation.

Performance:
Something Smashing have been programming nights of exuberant improvised sound and movement since 2017.  Creating magic in the here and now! Bringing together improvising musicians and dancers through live performance. A platform for improvisers and the audience to practice, explore, play, share, laugh, cry and celebrate the unexpected!

Transport
For anyone struggling with transport, please email: contact@dumfriesandgalloway.dance
We are aware that infrastructure can be a huge barrier to participation in the arts in Dumfries and Galloway and would like to support a range of methods of challenging this.

Our Pricing:
Dumfries and Galloway Dance are eager to bring dance experiences to the region which may not regularly happen here.  We want all residents to be able to take a chance on dance, and ensure that price is not a barrier to trying anything for the first time or getting involved. again.

Our work is traditionally pay what you decide.  As this event is underwritten by DG Arts Festivals Support For Ambition Programme it requires a fixed pricing system and we have opted to subsidise tickets to keep prices as low as possible.

However, if cost is a barrier to participation please email contact@dumfriesandgalloway.dance, where we can arrange attendance free of charge – no questions asked.

If you can afford to pay more, we will provide details of how you can donate to reflect the true cost of hosting a high quality event like this at the event.

We believe dance should be affordable to all and hope you do too!

*The Support For Ambition initiative enables local venues and artists to present performance events as part of the DG Arts Festival programme. DG Arts are not responsible for the delivery of these events; however, they provide financial, promotional and advisory support.
