Online Watch Party #9

Dumfries and Galloway Dance will be running monthly online watch parties, showcasing short pieces of contemporary dance while bringing together and developing audiences for dance across the region. Selected by a panel of independent dance experts, Dumfries and Galloway Dance will host a diverse mix of films over the next 12 months.

THIS MONTH WE’RE WATCHING:

The Sound Of My Ears
By Molly Scott Danter & Stuart Brown

The Sound of My Ears is a short experimental dance film by drummer/audiovisual artist, Stuart Brown, exploring his relationship with sound, tinnitus and hearing loss, created remotely over Zoom in collaboration with dancer Molly Danter, during Magnetic North’s Rough Mix residency 2021. The film utilises electro-acoustic percussion and improvised dance to represent and reflect on the sonic, physical and emotional experiences associated with tinnitus and hearing loss, while also celebrating the joy of music and sound and offering an optimistic message to anyone dealing with an injury or impairment that affects their ability to do something they love.

Together With Dance
By Rebecca Moore and Marina Renee-Cemmick

Together with Dance is a movement project which began March 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The piece has provided connection during isolation measures, and captured the experience of lockdown through the intimate viewpoints into dancers spaces, using movement and music as the language of expression. Rebecca Moore and Marina Renee-Cemmick initiated the proposal for 22 dancers to create a dance piece filmed on phones, cameras and laptops, in individuals personal lockdown environments. This project involves dancers and musicians from Scotland, Ireland, England, Basque Country, Japan and Taiwan who have had connection to or been a part the Scottish Dance Scene.
