The month’s Watch party features;
The Soul Species: CALLUNA VULGARIS or simply, heather by Katie Taylor & Melissa Heywood
With regards to the natural order of the planet and its intricate ecosystems it seems that humans place themselves at the top of the pecking order but how valid actually are we in the eyes of the earth? In this short contemporary film The Soul Species: CALLUNA VULGARIS or simply, heather we explore our connections with heather the patriotic and all-consuming plant of Scotland. We explore how the earth views us in comparison to this plant through a site-specific working style, intertwined with the Waulking songs sang by the highlander women of Scotland and a sound score created to help bring you back down to the earth.
Kindling by Saffy Setohy
Kindling is a short film tracing mother and son Lois & Jake as they move through places that are special to them, and that have been the habitat of their relationship. Blending a homemade movie aesthetic with a surreal, dreamlike quality, and a sense of playfulness, the film invites the viewer into the world of Lois and Jake. It celebrates the qualities of their mother-son relationship, collaging together a sense of past and present. Kindling features an original sound score by Nick Janaway, drawing on Lois and Jakes’ everyday environment, as well as images, memories and observations which they have shared over twenty years.
