This winter Dumfries and Galloway Dance will be running monthly online watch parties, showcasing short pieces of contemporary dance while bringing together and developing audiences for dance across the region.
Selected by a panel of independent dance experts, Dumfries and Galloway Dance will host a diverse mix of films over the next 12 months.

3billion by Overdrive Dance Company
Overdrive is a dance company that promotes dance for boys and young men in Glasgow. Overdrive is an open and inclusive company that creates a safe space for the boys to explore their creativity in an all-male community. The company are a diverse group, coming from a range of backgrounds, experiences and abilities, united by a shared love of dance and theatre. The company, in collaboration with dance artist Hayley Earlam and theatre artist Lucy Wild, create works which are highly physical, daring, tender and often humorous. By working in a collaborative way, the work is a reflection of the dancers themselves and ensures the young people’s voices are heard.

3billion is an exploration of male identities questioning who we are, who we will become, and do we have to follow the path set for us? Performed and filmed by dancers of Overdrive Dance Company, the company came together over lockdown to reimagine a work that was due to perform on stage into film. Overdrive is a dance company that promotes dance for boys and young men in Glasgow. Working with choreographers Hayley Earlam and Lucy Wild, it is an open and inclusive company that creates a safe space for the boys to explore their creativity within an all-male community. 3billion was made possible by a microgrant from Youth Theatre Arts Scotland.
ANYWHERE BUT HERE! by Dance North Scotland Youth Company
Dance North Youth Company aims to create, perform and tour bold, imaginative and experimental work, bringing together some of Morays most courageous young dancers with professional choreographers.The company meets on a weekly basis and for intensive weeks throughout the year to develop their technical skills, explore and engage in collaborative devising processes. Company members will also attend performances, open studio opportunities with Dance North resident artists and workshops with visiting artists, where possible.
About the film:
During lockdown and via zoom, Gail Sneddon (independent artist and Dance Development Lead, Dance North Scotland) worked with 10 young dancers from the Dance North Youth Company, to create a five-part digital shorts series entitled ANYWHERE BUT HERE! which weave together to form a message. Through the lens of isolaton, the company explored what it now means to belong, their experience of remote living and how they imagined the future as restrictions eased. All elements were filmed entirely on mobile phones by the dancers themselves or family members.
