Dumfries and Galloway is a region built by communities; it has active community councils, region wide volunteer initiatives and a history of grassroots arts projects.
Dumfries and Galloway Dance aims to build a solid infrastructure to support the visibility of dance theatre across the region and to develop a clear career progression for young people living in the region who are interested in pursuing a career in dance, whether that be as a dancer, photographer, journalist or many of the other roles in the sector.
We aim to increase access and create space for a dance community to grow. Initially between September 2020 to December 2021 we will be:
Developing a Young Dancers Leadership Programme
Creating a region wide Youth Dance Company
Growing a community that comes together to watch live dance; and
Creating a venue based touring network
The long-term vision of Dumfries and Galloway Dance is to create a progression route for dancers interested in pursuing a professional career in dance and enable the growth of dance audiences across the region in association with five regional venues.
